Biosystematics of Anthosachne

Anthosachne Steudel, an allohexaploid group of the StYW genome species in Triticeae, was distinguished as a separate genus from traditional Elymus sect. Anthosachne, with A. australasica Steudel as the type species. Anthosachne includes three species native to Australia: Anthosachne australasica Steudel, Anthosachne aprica (Löve et Connor) C. Yen et J. L. Yang, and Anthosachne multiflora (Banks et Solander ex Hook. f.) C. Yen et J. L. Yang. Anthosachne australasica, which is the only known apomictic species in the Triticeae, includes three varieties, Anthosachne australasica var. scabra, Anthosachne australasica var. plurinervisa, and Anthosachne australasica var. typica.
