Some Chinese mobile Internet companies, such as Jiayuan, Tantan, and Momo, have designed and launched dating apps. However, dating apps in China are faced with many challenges such as small market scale, low user loyalty, and high risks. The UTAUT2 model is used to explore the factors influencing Chinese singles’ usage intention of dating apps, with two additional factors (perceived risk and trust). Both quantitative research and qualitative research are conducted through questionnaires and interviews to understand the users’ perceptions about dating apps and how factors affect usage intention. Results of this study show that Chinese single users’ intention toward dating apps is positively affected by performance expectancy, hedonic motivation, and trust. In addition, the role of performance expectancy in mediating the effects of effort expectancy and social influence on Chinese singles’ intention to use dating apps is significant. These findings could help dating app providers to offer better services for Chinese single users.
