“Doing Family”: Everyday Life in the Lebanese Australian Home

  • Maram Shaweesh

摘要

This chapter examines the various aspects of the Lebanese Australia lifestyle that influence family behaviour and requirements within suburban Australian houses. The discussion explores the intersections between the physical characteristics of suburban homes and three key social and cultural elements: social gatherings, parenting values, and traditional Lebanese cookingCooking. By examining the dichotomy between the tangible reality of home and its idealised conception, this chapter translates aspects of families’ everyday lives into architectural representations. This process helps bridge the gap between identifying cultural, religious, and social needs and the practicalities of designing domestic environments in Australia.
