The Lebanese Settlement in Australia: Past and Present

Dating back to the late 1880s, the Lebanese community in Australia has a rich migratory history. However, I argue for a deeper understanding of the conventional notion of “Who is a Lebanese Australian?” by emphasising the diversity within the community. In aligning with the “time-sensitive understanding” proposed by scholars like Paolo Boccagni, this chapter transcend mainstream perspectives on the Lebanese Australian identity. Factors such as the time of migration, original city or village, religious affiliations, and being born in Australia contribute to a multifaceted identity that warrants careful consideration.
