The main topic of this chapter is the fertilization techniques for relay strip intercropping of maize and soybean in China. We discuss the use of reduced application fertilization to increase crop yields while improving fertilizer utilization efficiency and reducing environmental pollution. We also investigated the impact of integrated nitrogen application amount reduction on maize and soybean yield, nitrogen absorption and systematic nitrogen uptake in kernels, and root nodulation and aboveground growth. Through field experiments, we established correlations between different indicators and identified optimal fertilizer-application distances and nitrogen fertilizer amounts suitable for maize–soybean intercropping. The findings suggest that proper reduction in nitrogen fertilizer and appropriate fertilizer-application distance can increase the yield of maize and soybeans, as well as improve nitrogen absorption and utilization. These findings provide a theoretical and practical basis for efficient fertilization technology in maize–soybean relay strip-intercropping systems.

摘要
