Migrants are often the most dynamic group in a society. Not only do they flow spatially to cities or regions that boast more opportunities for development, they also strive for upward movement in social class. In previous chapters, this book has mainly focused on rural migrant workers who are generally a low-skilled group; in this chapter, I turn my attention to well-educated, middle-class migrants earning decent incomes. As part of the middle class, this well-educated group is more integrated into urban society and has more social resources; and as migrants, they have higher expectations for a new life in the city.
