The emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) has brought about a significant change in the way skin cancer is diagnosed, as it is a common and potentially dangerous ailment. This survey article thoroughly examines the significant impact of artificial intelligence (AI) in the detection of skin cancer. It does so by analyzing more than 10 research papers based on the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standards. The review covers many aspects, such as the utilization of sophisticated image processing techniques, machine learning algorithms, and deep learning methodology specifically designed for dermatological purposes. The text examines the incorporation of clinical data, the metrics used to evaluate models, and the difficulties related to obtaining diverse and representative datasets. The survey explores the intricacies of real-time detection systems, the collaboration between humans and artificial intelligence in the field of dermatology related to the usage of Artificial Intelligence for diagnosis. The study also examines the comprehensibility and clarity of AI models, investigating the influence of transfer learning in the field of dermatology and the effects of IoT and wearable devices on the detection of skin cancer. This analysis covers the topics of telemedicine applications, data privacy, and security concerns. It also includes an evaluation of the economic consequences and cost-effectiveness of AI-driven diagnostics compared to traditional methods. The paper continues by providing a future-oriented viewpoint on worldwide patterns, approaches to involving patients, and upcoming technologies that influence the future of artificial intelligence in the field of dermatology.
