An Analytical Study of the Centre of Gravity Envelope of a Tilt-Rotor Aircraft in Full Flight Mode

In view of the unique layout of the tilt-rotor aircraft, an aerodynamic model including rotor, wing, drogue, flat tail (including rudder) and fuselage as well as a flight mechanics model of the whole aircraft are established, and the validity and accuracy of the model are verified by comparing with the GTRS data. Based on the aerodynamic balance, the calculation method of the centre of gravity envelope is innovatively proposed. Taking XV-15 as an example, we select the appropriate tilt over curve, and study the changing law of dynamic centre of gravity envelope in the process of tilt from the unique vertical and longitudinal two-dimensional envelope perspective, and put forward the method of expanding the centre of gravity envelope, which provides theoretical support and practical guidance for the design of tilt rotor aircraft.
