The Whole Process of an Open Economy and Social Justice

This chapter traces the origins of the idea of common prosperity to both Chinese cultural traditions and the CCP’s distinctive developmental path. Kang Youwei’s Datong Shu (Book on the Great Community) elaborates on the concept of Datong, presenting a hybrid economic model that diverges from the extremes of purely private or communal property systems. Ancient China’s well-field system also reflects this balanced approach. The CCP has absorbed and adapted elements from these historical systems, creating a government-led economic model. Unlike the Soviet Union’s centralized control, China distributes economic power across various government levels, particularly at the grassroots. Considering China’s three-tiered capital structurethree-tiered capital structure and mixed property rights, this chapter introduces the notion of full-process open economic activities—or participatory and inclusive economic activities—emphasizing that achieving social justice throughout all stages of economic activity is crucial for realizing common prosperity.
