Through the Lens: A Deep Dive into IP Camera Security and Privacy Challenges
摘要
Internet of Things (IoT) technology is rapidly developing and really has revolutionized different aspects of life with tremendous development. The technology is fast-growing and integrates the use of IP cameras in modern surveillance systems to enhance security and monitoring functions. However, such increased connectivity brings significant security and privacy challenges because, in fact, IP cameras are the targets of various cyber threats—from unauthorized access to data compromise and even surveillance activities—risking personal privacy up to national security. Such challenges require robust security measures tailored to the specific needs of IP cameras in IoT environments, such as applying only the latest security patches, strong encryption for data protection, and having access control mechanisms in place. This is in addition to some cyber-hygienic practices, such as imposing strong passwords, updating firmware, and monitoring traffic in the network. Policymakers and regulators also have a very important role in the security and privacy of the IoT by making strong practices mandatory via laws and standards. Enhance the security and privacy of the IP cameras with respect to IoT through a mix of technical solutions, awareness among users, and regulatory measures.
