An Evaluation of Work Study Programme (WSP) in Supply Chain Management Course for Working Adults in Singapore

This chapter presents the findings of a study conducted at a polytechnic in Singapore to determine the effectiveness of a post-diploma course in supply chain management under Work Study Programme (WSP). Particularly, we examined the following aspects of this post-diploma course under WSP: (i) Participants’ perception of knowledge and skills attained in the course; (ii) Participants’ perceived usefulness and challenges faced in the course; (iii) Participants’ motivation in enrolling into the course; (iv) The extent in which the participants apply the knowledge and skills attained from the course at workplace; (v) Incentives, benefits and challenges perceived by participating companies. This study was conducted using quantitative surveys and qualitative Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with a sample size of 87 learners and 19 participating companies. The results revealed that participants generally felt their knowledge and skills in this field had improved after completing the course and that they applied these extensively in the workplace. From the perspective of the companies, the most prominent incentives for participating in this programme are financial subsidies from the government and staying updated on the latest developments in logistics. Finally, this chapter concludes with recommendations to improve the course design and delivery.
