Physical Activity and Anti-Aging: Prevention of Sarcopenia and Frailty Through Exercise
摘要
The usefulness of exercise has been demonstrated in many clinical studies aimed at improving the physical function of the elderly. In particular, sufficient resistance exercise (strength training) is considered necessary to increase the skeletal muscle mass of the elderly. Regarding the exercise effect on sarcopenia and frailty, the “Sarcopenia Treatment Guidelines 2017 Edition” [1] recognizes the improvement effect of exercise, but its evidence level is low, and the recommendation level is not necessarily high. On the other hand, in the “Frailty Treatment Guidelines 2018 Edition” [2], exercise is effective in preventing the onset and progression of frailty, and both its evidence level and recommendation level are high.
