摘要

Among the “aging indicators” that objectively evaluate the progression of aging, the most straightforward is chronological age. However, when based on chronological age, the degree of aging progression and the manifestation of symptoms vary from person to person. That is, human aging does not necessarily occur at the same speed, and in recent years, the concept of “biological age,” which estimates the degree of aging progression from the degree of physical function decline, has been attracting attention. Biological age reflects the degree of various organ function declines with aging, separate from chronological age, and is considered the age estimated based on various physical function declines. In the future, it is clear that the proportion of elderly people will increase in many countries, including Japan, and how to slow down aging and prolong the period of health and productivity has become an important research theme.
