Preferences and Antiaging: Coffee and Antiaging

Many metaanalyses are proving positive health outcomes for habitual coffee intake, and the perception of coffee is shifting from a beverage with a stimulating effect to an antiaging beverage when consumed regularly within the usual intake range. The antiaging effects include preventive effects against type 2 diabetes, kidney stones, Parkinson’s disease, gout, liver fibrosis, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, cirrhosis, liver cancer, and chronic liver disease. These effects remain even after adjusting for a number of potential confounding factors, according to comprehensive reviews of meta-analyses, and the EPIC (European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition) results also suggest a correlation between coffee intake and a reduction in overall mortality rate [1]. The molecular mechanisms causing the antiaging effects of coffee intake have not yet been fully elucidated. While epidemiological studies cannot prove causality, the observed reduction in type 2 diabetes risk due to coffee intake in various regions is noteworthy. This article explains the antiaging effects of coffee.
