Comparative Analysis of OFDM and FBMC System Using Cognitive Radio Technique

摘要

In mobile communication, spectrum range is a limitation as an enormous amount of bandwidth is not appropriately utilized which reduces the Quality of Services (QoS). The spectral efficacy can be increased if the spectrum is accessible without interfering. Though OFDM has several advantages for removing the ISI (Inter Symbol Interference) from the channel, Cyclic Prefix (CP) is introduced; however, it occupies excess bandwidth. To eliminate these issues, FBMC is an appropriate applicant as it comprises a bank of filters and it also supports MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) systems. The proposed work focuses on integrating the energy detection schemes with OFDM and FBMC waveforms. The study compares the simulations and comparative analysis of FBMC and OFDM with different aspects to analyze spectrum sensing. The projected work is studied thoroughly and implemented on MATLAB version 2019. Several parameters such as Probability of Detection (Pd), Probability of False Alarm (PFA), and Bit Error Rate (BER) are estimated for OFDM and FBMC systems. It is seen that the proposed spectrum sensing method works more efficiently in FBMC as compared with the OFDM system. The methods used in FBMC deliver compatibility with MIMO. It also decreases PAPR with minimum BER. These advantages make FBMC a suitable applicant for 5G systems and also used for IoT applications.
