Examining the Cultivation Policies for Normal University Students in Britain

This chapter concentrates on the cultivation policies for normal university students in the United Kingdom. The establishment of local public colleges and the emergence of colleges signified the conclusion of this secularization process and denoted the ultimate formation of the modern teacher education system in Britain. After 1904, a unique teacher education management system was formed in Britain with the direct participation of the state macro-control university, local education authorities and church groups, and training college formed by the university. The modern teacher education college system in Britain comprises two distinct types of institutions of differing natures: local public training colleges and local private training colleges. This duality signifies the final establishment of the modern education system in Britain. The essence of teacher education in Britain is not the change of teacher training form, but the improvement of teacher training level. On the one hand, it meets the need of training high-quality teachers and the development of higher education and strengthens the academic character of normal education. On the other hand, due to the characteristics of academic freedom in universities, teachers’ education after university is conducive to the development of educational research and promotes teachers’ professional development.
