Kobayashi-sensei in Japan, Toshi outside of his home country, he has made a prodigious number of groundbreaking contributions to the theory of symmetries, spanning from representation theory and noncommutative harmonic analysis to the geometry of discontinuous groups beyond the Riemannian setting.
