A Survey on Awareness of Ongoing Family-Planning Programs and Policies Among Teacher Educators in Odisha, India
摘要
In India, family-planning policies and programs are developed and administered by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. In addition to the government’s new initiative, factors such as better healthcare, more opportunities for women to get education, and more women in the labor force have contributed to declining birth rates in several Indian cities. This chapter intends to investigate the level of knowledge and awareness of family-planning programs among teacher educators in Odisha, India. The survey also demonstrates that no difference appears in the degree of knowledge among urban, rural, and semiurban teacher educators regardless of their location. Simultaneously, it suggests that although teacher educators are aware, 60% of them admit that they have not used different methods of family-planning programs at their own level. As a result, the survey suggests that considerably more orientation is needed for teacher educators because although they have information, their application of it is lacking. All teacher educators from urban, semiurban, and rural areas are eager to promote such a program at their institutions because it would benefit society. This survey is designed to examine teacher educators’ awareness of ongoing family-planning initiatives and policies in Odisha, India. This work fills a major gap in the literature by concentrating on this important demographic group’s awareness and understanding of family-planning activities. This chapter provides useful insights for policymakers, educators, and stakeholders interested in improving reproductive health education in the education system. The scope of related work could be expanded in future research by comparing awareness levels among teacher educators across different regions of Odisha or among educators from other states in India. Longitudinal studies, qualitative investigations, and impact assessments are further research pathways that could enhance evidence-based strategies for increasing family-planning awareness among Odisha teacher educators.
