The Role of Brain Orexin in the Regulation of Gastrointestinal Functions such as Intestinal Motility, Visceral Sensation, and Intestinal Barrier Function

Neuropeptide orexin acts in the brain to stimulate gastrointestinal secretion and motility and improve visceral sensation. These results suggest that orexin plays a role in the pathophysiology of functional gastrointestinal disorders.
