Nuclear Medicine in Oncology

Recently, nuclear medicine has been leadingly helping the diagnostics and therapeutics in oncology. This branch explores the functional status of an organ or lesion, which gives it an edge over solitary anatomical imaging, especially in oncology, where we need to comprehend how a tumor behaves. After the advent of PET/CT, which integrates anatomical and functional modalities, it has aided in the main objectives of oncological imaging like lesion detection, lesion characterization, evaluation of the extent of the tumor, staging, response assessment and restaging of various cancers.
