DNA and the Diversity of Life Sustain Us and Our Environment

The DNA molecule in response to the environment and the associated selection pressures enabled the diversity of life forms that exist on planet Earth. Each species in each of the three domains of life has a unique genetic signature. Occupying the many niches on Earth enables the interactions that enable the sustainability of our ecosystems, our planet, and us. How does the diversity of life contribute? The plants in the photosynthetic process drive the oxygen production of the atmosphere and carbon dioxide capture using the green chloroplasts. Plants and animals use oxygen and produce carbon dioxide in the energy-producing process utilizing mitochondria. Chloroplasts and mitochondria contain small quantities of essential DNA. Our existence is dependent on an atmosphere that provides us with life-giving oxygen and a carbon dioxide balance. Photosynthesis provides sugars containing carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen (CHO) for other carbohydrates and lipids. However, proteins and DNA also require nitrogen and phosphorus. The nitrogen cycle, dependent on bacteria and the Archaea, is outlined. Phosphorus is present in the soil solution and aqueous environment. The carbon cycle, nitrogen cycle, and phosphorus availability have been heavily influenced by humankind.
