摘要

We receive our DNA from our parents and pass our DNA to our children to continue human life on our planet. We are also connected through DNA to all creatures that are single cells or composed of many cells. In many ways, it is DNA that makes our planet and each one of us special. In this chapter, how prebiotic chemistry could have contributed to the origin of RNA and DNA is considered as well as potential pathways to primitive cells. At some point, the single cell of the last universal common ancestor (LUCA) gave rise to the three domains of life: the Archaea, prokaryotes, and eukaryotes. It is the eukaryote cells that enabled the diversity of plants and animals and the evolution of ourselves. How did these complex eukaryotic cells evolve? This fascinating story about the endosymbiotic origin of mitochondria and chloroplasts is developed. The origin of the diverse multicellular life forms goes hand in hand with the oxygenation of the atmosphere.
