Bridging the Gap: Exploring Adaptation Strategies for Climate-Resilient Agriculture and Enhanced Livelihoods in Odisha

Climate change has emerged as a severe threat to agriculture, with direct consequences for people's livelihoods in Odisha, India. The purpose of this chapter is to look at the various effects of climate change on agriculture and how they affect the livelihoods of the people in Odisha. This study examines the various dimensions of climate change, such as rising temperatures, erratic rainfall patterns, and extreme weather events, and their negative effects on agricultural productivity and food security in the region, using a comprehensive review of existing literature. The chapter also investigates the socioeconomic ramifications of these climate changes on the livelihood strategies of rural populations in Odisha, examining the difficulties they confront in maintaining agricultural operations and safeguarding their earnings. It also tries to discover adaptation and mitigation techniques that can increase agricultural system resilience and the socioeconomic well-being of the impacted people. This project intends to give useful insights into the complex relationships between climate change, agriculture, and livelihoods in Odisha by using a mixed-methods approach that includes qualitative interviews and quantitative surveys. Finally, the findings of this study are likely to lead to the creation of targeted policies and interventions aimed at developing climate-resilient agricultural practices and protecting Odisha's livelihoods in the face of continuous environmental changes.
