Integration of Culture in Contemporary Saudi Architecture: A Review and Survey
摘要
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has taken several developmental initiatives through Vision 2030, which will significantly impact the architecture and design sector. The vision encompasses various goals, such as facilitating investment, opening the tourism sector in KSA, and planning for the execution of numerous new projects that require intensive efforts in developing the architecture and design sector. This study proposes a concept to balance old buildings and new projects by ensuring that new structures reflect the culture. In doing so, KSA preserves its cultural authenticity while showcasing modernity and advancement in new projects. This study elucidates and explains the proposed concept, analyzes relevant environmental and field aspects, and gathers individuals’ opinions. Both experts and the public have endorsed and supported the idea of this concept. This concept can bridge the gap between historical and contemporary architectural structures. It sets an approach to encourage engineers and designers to adopt this concept in future designs.
