Most existing studies on rural protests have focused on those caused by government (public power) infringement. However, in rural China, competing interests and other factors often induce social conflicts in the daily life of rural residents, which in turn triggers rural resistance. Especially in current rural society, which is in the process of a drastic transformation, values are becoming increasingly diversified, and the conflicts of interest are more intense, which makes it easier to induce rural resistance. These conflicts and disputes often occur in the daily lives of rural residents rather than in the confrontation between rural residents and the government. In other words, it was the contradictions and disputes in the daily life of rural residents rather than government infringement that caused a large number of rural protests. Therefore, exploring the daily life and politics of rural residents is a beneficial perspective for understanding rural resistance. This chapter intends to explore the association between the state and rural protest politics from the perspective of rural life politics.
