Development of Bit Synchronizer for Remote Sensing Satellite Data

Communication became vital for human expansion. The ignition of human desire to communicate gave out new outlook on the ways of communicating [1]. This was enabled by satellite communication. Satellite communications laid paths for Remote sensing. Remote sensing is the process of capturing information from distance. Remote sensing link is purely digital. The remote sensing satellite ( NRSC Ground Station Reference Manual 2014, 03(01), 2014) acquires the images and transforms into digital signals, modulates, and transmits. The highly dynamic and unknown remote sensing data is acquired by the ground station. In order to exactly determine the value of transmitted bits with minimum errors the receiver must know clock information of the transmitted bit clock. Receivers derive the clock information from the transmitted bits. A Bit Synchronizer is used for this purpose. A Bit Synchronizer recovers or reconstructs the digital signal timing thereby allowing high-quality data bit detections. The aim of this project is to Develop a High Data Rate Bit Synchronizer for Remote Sensing Data. The Bit Synchronizer performs the following tasks: Data clock estimation from the incoming signal which is generally buried in noise, and extracting high-quality bit estimates. Test data sequence is QPSK modulated (Kodheli et al. in Satellite communications in the new space era: a survey and future challenges 23(1):70–109, 2020) and coupled to the front end of the data receiver, where it is down-converted and fed to Bit Synchronizer for simulating the circuit.
