In this manuscript, we exhibit a graphene-based patch antenna comprised of monolayered graphene. The patch having dimension 70 × 65 μm2 is mounted on the upper side of the silicon substrate of dimension 75 × 75 μm2. The ground plane is below the substrate with the same dimension 75 × 75 μm2. The proposed antenna provides a bandwidth of 0.12 THz or 120 GHz in the mid-infrared region from 4.46 to 4.58 THz at the resonating frequency of 4.528 THz. The designed antenna exhibits a significant reflection coefficient of − 33.38 dB. The antenna exhibits a maximum gain of 6.418 dBi. The designed antenna is a highly directive antenna that provides a maximum directivity of 9.212 dBi. The designed one is found to be a fit candidate aimed at high data rate transmission in indoor communication and spectroscopy applications.
