Energy consumption is an urgent global issue, with buildings in developed countries accounting for 20–40% of energy consumption, surpassing the industrial and transportation sectors. The growing demand for building services and the long-term use of indoor spaces are reinforcing this trend, making energy efficiency a cornerstone of local, national and international energy policy. This article explores the complexity of energy consumption in a sports center that resembles a miniature city where a myriad of daily activities take place. In addition to daily training, these centers may also house the school’s football program, administration, various teams, and even athletes. This complexity requires a comprehensive energy assessment that emphasizes efficiency improvements that consider not only the facility but also the impact on the broader community. This study highlights the importance of efficiency and goes beyond reducing consumption and CO2 emissions. This highlights the educational role of these megastructures, which can inspire spectators and stakeholders to emulate sustainable behaviors. In addition, this study performs segmentation by detailing energy consumption during different activities within the complex ecosystem of a sports center. Understanding these patterns is critical to develop customized strategies to achieve maximum efficiency and promote broader cultural change toward sustainability. The research also addresses some energy efficiency measures in order to reduce the environmental impact of the sports center.
