Trees intercept wind driven rain reducing the total throughfall rain on ground and building façades. The rain throughfall is modelled using a multiphase Eulerian wind driven rain model introducing a sink term in the mass balance which accounts for the intercepted rain. The model is calibrated with field experiments. Trees not only reduce the wind driven rain catch ratio on ground and façade but may also increase the rain load on the façade and the ground in close proximity to the trees, due to rearrangement of wind flow field and droplet trajectories.
