Hazardous Waste: Chemical Identification and Safe Disposal

From the past few decades, the management of waste material has been one of the chief concerns of the earth's ecosystem. Several scientific and economic parameters report the rapid increase of wastes with increasing inhabitants, industrialization, and development. Waste which is considered hazardous may contain toxicity and it is generated from industry, hospitals, and some classes of domestic wastes. These wastes could be corrosive, inflammable, and explosive in nature and react when encountered with other materials. Hazardous waste causes high toxicity to the ecosystem comprising plants, animals, and humans. The disposal method of these harmful waste materials is relatively mature including plasma treatment technology, microwave treatment technology, pyrolysis vaporization, incineration treatment technology, landfilling, lagoons, high temperature cooking, and chemical methods, etc. Finally, disposal attains the effects of detoxification, reduction, and stabilization. Saving the environment and individual health from the harmful effects of hazardous and radioactive waste is achieved by effective improvement programs dealing with the management of harmful byproducts. In the scope of this study, types, sources, their impacts on human health and safe disposal, and control of hazardous waste have been summarized in detail.
