Synthesis and Functionalization of Natural Products with Light-Driven Reactions

The synthetic chemists strive to design and investigate innovative methodologies to implement them for the synthesis of natural products. In this aspect, photoredox catalysis has extended popularity as a potent technique permitting the selective creation of chemical bonds under mild conditions. Photoredox catalysis can efficiently demonstrate various processes such as fragmentations, cyclizations, intermolecular C–H functionalization reactions, photocycloadditions, and reductive couplings which have been focussed in this chapter. The elevating advances in photocatalytic reactions instigated an acceleration in their application for the construction of structurally elaborated organic compounds. In this chapter, the photocatalytic synthesis and functionalization of natural products have been comprehended from 2019 till date. The chapter is categorized according to the nature of the photocatalyst under each of the sections for the synthesis and functionalization of natural products to aid and facilitate the understanding.
