Optimizing Disaster Recovery: A Comprehensive Study on Global Server Load Balancing in Network Solutions

Disaster recovery (DR) involves a set of guidelines and procedures designed to facilitate the restoration of essential technological infrastructure and services in the event of a disaster, whether natural or caused by human error. The primary objective of a Disaster Recovery plan is to minimize both failover and failback times. In the case of web-based applications, it is crucial to seamlessly transition services between the primary Data Center and the Disaster Recovery Data Center. Various technologies exist to manage services between two Data Centers in active/passive mode, but our focus here is on active active services between two Data Centers, where Global Server Load Balancing (GSLB) is the sole option. To implement active active services, the VMware tool runs the Radware Alteon SLB OS, the Virtual Box tool operates Windows XP machines hosting web services, and GNS3 is utilized to simulate the entire network topology for the two Data Centers.
