Reading the Informalized City

Informal urbanism, by definition, does not register on formal urban databases and maps but is often highly visible on the streets and urban landscapes if we can learn how to read them. A series of photographs and short vignettes from 20 cities across the global South shows how the primary modes of informal production—street vending, transport and settlement—are interconnected diagrammatically with each other and the more formal city.
