Sudden death syndrome (SDS) is one main limiting factor to soybean production. It is caused by Fusarium solani species complex (FSSC) members of clade 2. These fungi are soilborne and start infection through soybean roots and secrete toxins that are translocated to the foliar part of the plant, where they cause foliar necrosis and chlorosis. SDS-related losses in the USA were estimated at $3.06 billion from 1988 to 2010. There is no one strategy that growers can use to entirely manage SDS, therefore successful SDS management is achieved through an integrated approach that comprises strategies that successfully complement each other. Although some management strategies have been studied to minimize SDS, ongoing work is still required to create long-term disease management plans to keep the disease below economic threshold levels.
