During his 2023 press conference on climate, the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres warned that “the era of global warming has ended” and that “the era of global boiling has arrived.” As China strives toward the ambitious goal of building an ecological civilization (EC), which is a philosophical concept that underpins China’s green developmental aims, the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies presents a unique opportunity to accelerate this goal. However, scant information exists in the literature on specific cases of AI applications for EC in China that can be used as a reference for educational scenarios toward the promotion of EC in general and EC education in particular. Therefore, this chapter provides an integrative review to unveil new or emerging applications of AI for the promotion of EC in China and scenarios in education that can be inspired by these applications. Findings reveal applications aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as sustainable and intelligent energy systems (SDG 7), AI-enhanced water resource management (SGD 7), AI-driven sustainable agriculture and food systems (SDG 2), wildlife protection and biodiversity conservation (SDG 15), or sustainable transportation, infrastructure, and urban planning in smart cities (SDG 11). Scenarios in education include smart school energy management systems (including the optimization of energy consumption of learning environments and hands-on learning approaches to encourage sustainable practices), smart water-intake monitoring systems, AI for sustainable school nutrition program management, and biomimicry-inspired AI models in education. Three recommendations for future research cover pedagogical innovation, technological application, and policy integration. This chapter is important due to its interdisciplinary nature, offering researchers from different disciplines insights, connecting AI, EC, and education using cases from China.

摘要
