People-Centred Urbanization and Rural Social Governance

This chapter investigates the impacts on rural society during the process of people-centred urbanization by examining where farmers locate their consumption space and structures of rural governance. From the perspective of consumption, farmers’ material, cultural, and service consumption spaces have gradually concentrated in urban areas and most farmers now locate their consumption space in both urban and rural settings. Given the facts, the government should enhance rural road transportation conditions, expand sub-optimal consumption spaces in cities, and provide access to urban services.
