Enzymes being biological catalysts play a pivotal role in accelerating the chemical reaction. The rise in environmental pollution due to the use of hazardous chemicals in textiles leads to environmental unsustainability affecting the ecosystem. Replacement of these chemicals with biocatalysts that are biodegradable, reliable, stable, environment-friendly, and renewable resources has revolutionized the textile industry. These can be easily obtained from fungi, algae, bacteria, plants, and microorganisms. Hydrolases and oxidoreductases are two important enzymes used in the textile industry, i.e., lipases, amylase, cellulases, pectinase, laccases, and catalases. These are used for bio-sourcing, de-sizing, enhancing dye uptake, enhancing the leather quality, biopolishing, improving yarn lubricity, denim stone washing, defibrillation of lyocell, wool sourcing, bleaching agent, dye decolorization, and laundry detergent. These viable sources make sure the quality of fabric whether it is denim, cotton, yarn, and polyester is not compromised. It plays a key role in improving air quality, the health of workers dealing with these-biocatalyst and most importantly the stability of the ecosystem.
