Atmospheric Circulation Continues to be Abnormal (2)—Teleconnection Dynamics Mechanism

The Earth’s atmosphere itself is also a unity. The circulation and weather changes in a certain place must be related to the circulation and weather in other places. Research on the teleconnection of atmospheric circulation has made very significant progress since the 1970s, and people have developed a better understanding of the evolution of atmospheric circulation. The term teleconnection appeared in the literature from 1969. When Bjerknes analyzed the relationship between the SST anomalies in the equatorial Pacific and the circulation of the westerly belt in the northeastern Pacific, he found out that there were significant similarities in the winter of 1957–1958, the winter of 1963–1964, and the winter of 1965–1966. He then named the correlation between such long-range atmospheric circulation changes as teleconnection. In fact, the first disclosure of the teleconnection of atmospheric movement dates back to 1897. The so-called Southern Oscillation (SO), which was pointed out by Hildeb-randon and then named by Walker, was precisely the relationship between the pressure change in the Southeast Pacific and the pressure change in the Indian Ocean, which was a type of teleconnection.
