The present research work examines the levels of educational attainment among females in rural India. For this study, district-wise census data of 2011 has been used. Initially, the literacy rateLiteracy rate of rural female population has been worked out in percentage. Based on census data, various levels of educational attainmentEducational attainment in proportion to total educated females have been worked out in percentage for a uniform pattern, i.e. 100%. Thereafter, weighted scores have been derived by assigning one to 9 to the respective categories. The composite weighted scoresComposite weighted scores were worked out and divided into 5 broad categories to assess the levels of educational attainment among females in rural India. The study reveals that 58% of females have formally acquired education in rural India. It has been recorded that out of the total educated females, more than a fourth-fifth of females obtained education up to ‘secondary/matriculation levels’. About 7% reached up to the level of ‘senior secondary’. On the other hand, nearly 5% of females shared in the categories of literate without educational level and unclassified, while only 3% receivedEducation education up to graduation and above levels. Finally, it has been recorded that the East Delhi district of NCT of Delhi has obtained the highest composite weighted scoresComposite weighted scores (651), while the Shajapur district of Madhya Pradesh has obtained the lowest composite weighted scoresComposite weighted scores (199) in rural India. Further, it has been found that extremely northern and southern parts of India show higher levels of educational attainment, while low levels are represented by western and central parts of the study area.
