One of the prominent tourism-oriented states of India, Goa has experienced a voluminous influx of tourists over the decades and the twenty-first century has experienced exponential growth, far exceeding the residential population. Thus, the present research attempts to envisage the development of tourismTourism and the dynamics of decadal changes andTransformation transformation of landuseLand use and landcover features over nearly three decades, especially after globalizationGlobalization. The study also assesses Butler’s, (1980) TourismTourism Area Life Cycle, in which a tourist destination goes through six predictable stages by taking the case study of Calangute and Anjuna Beach tourist destinations. The study applies geospatial technologyGeospatial technology to achieve its objectives. The study shows that these destinations have reached the final stage (stagnation) of theTourism area life cycle Tourism Area Life Cycle and areas close to the beach have been converted into tourist services and commercial utilities. The applied algorithms state that there has been a significant increase in the built-up area. Lack of intervention may lead to further commercialization andDevelopment development of residential structures and commercial on the beaches, which will result in erosion and coastalCoastal destination regulationCoastal regulation zone zone violation and raise concerns for theSustainability sustainability of the beach destination.
