In this chapter, a subcarrier-modulation heterodyne-detection method is used to detect an orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) optical signal. The closed expressions of the average carrier-to-noise ratio and the average bit-error rate of the subcarriers in a turbulent channel are derived, and the OFDM/subcarrier modulation is analyzed.
