A carrier is a radio wave of a specific frequency that carries data. A subcarrier is an electronic communication-signal carrier that is carried on top of another carrier so that both the signals can efficiently propagate simultaneously. To distinguish the optical carrier, the electrical carrier premodulated by the analog baseband signal is called the subcarrier.
