Back in October 2001, the earliest Selection of Surgical Treatments for Primary Liver Cancer in China was prepared by the Section of Hepatic Surgery, Branch of Surgery, Chinese Medical Association in Wuhan, which clarified that a surgical treatment-based comprehensive treatment model should be adopted for primary liver cancer, and detailed the indications of surgical treatment and local treatment for primary liver cancer. Most patients are already in the intermediate or advanced stages at the time of diagnosis, with a high proportion of combined liver cirrhosis and a low surgical resection rate; meanwhile, the problem of high postoperative recurrence rate of liver cancer also poses a challenge to surgical treatment. Local treatment is minimally invasive and cost-effective with good repeatability and efficacy. Therefore, it is more and more widely applied in the treatment of liver cancer. This section summarizes the overview and classification of current local therapies for liver cancer.
