The data on the prevalence of malignant tumors in China released by the National Cancer Center in January 2019 showed that there were 370,000 new cases of primary liver cancer in China, accounting for about 44% of global cases, and 326,000 deaths, accounting for about 42% of global deaths. Among them, HCC accounts for 85–90% of all liver cancers. Judging from the latest data on the incidence and mortality of liver cancer, China still ranks first among high-risk HCC regions in the world. Only 15–20% of the patients with HCC are diagnosed at an early stage and suitable for surgical resection, whereas approximately 80% of the HCC patients are diagnosed at intermediate or advanced stage, losing the chance to receive surgical resection. Therefore, the improvement of systemic therapy for intermediate or advanced HCC has become the key to improving the prognosis of patients with HCC.
