Comprehensive Review of Collaborative Filtering Techniques

Collaborative filtering is a core technique in recommendation systems that is advantageous to users because it uncovers items in accordance with their preferences. This survey intends to explore various collaborative filtering techniques, providing an in-depth analysis of their strengths and weaknesses while also providing real-world applications. Continuing with different collaborative filtering recommendation system design techniques, this paper reviews 94 conference papers, articles, and journals to provide a detailed literature review of this topic. The data selected for this review were published within the last decade, between the year 2012 and 2023. They are classified by the evolution of years, databases, and application fields. The survey also examines papers based on different methodologies with the help of tangible findings, this literature review highlights trends in collaborative filtering using metaheuristic algorithms and offers suggestions for additional study projects in this field.
