摘要
Blockchain is a relatively recent concept, has swiftly triggered a profound revolution across various industries and technological domains. Beyond its association with cryptocurrencies, blockchain technology now finds applications in cutting-edge fields such as cloud computing, the Internet of Things (IoT), and the gaming industry. One of the latest advancements built upon the blockchain foundation is the metaverse—a novel digital realm akin to a second life. This emergent landscape has captured the attention of technology giants, prompting substantial investments and active participation. However, alongside its promise, the metaverse faces critical challenges related to authentication and privacy. Establishing a digital presence and confirming identity within this virtual environment presents novel complexities. In this chapter, we delve into the intricacies of blockchain, explore security and privacy hurdles, and introduce the Metaverse and its multifaceted applications. Additionally, we spotlight Zero Knowledge Proof (ZKP) as a pivotal focus. ZKP emerges as a primary contender for robust authentication within the metaverse, positioning it as a crucial choice for securing new technologies. In advance, advancements in sustainable technologies and computing for an environmentally responsible Metaverse deliberated.
