IoT-Based Smart Bin for Waste Management—Toward Empowering Sustainability

摘要

The increasing challenge of global waste management calls for innovative solutions. An IoT-based smart bin equipped with ultrasound and weight sensors was proposed in this research work. The position sensor senses the presence of human beings and automatically opens the lid of the smart bin. For a maximum duration of 5 s, the lid will be open and then it will automatically be closed. The weight sensor continuously monitors the weight and the lid will not open when the waste is up to a level of 60 cm. To facilitate maximum filling of waste, a hydraulic waste compression system was also put forward in this research work. For user interaction, a user-friendly blynk interface was proposed in this research work. The cloud platform enables the transfer of data to the municipality thereby aiding human personnel in waste disposal.
