Acoustics is a discipline that has been discussed over the years in a greater number of sectors. Noise requirements are from the customer side and are also visible in the noise regulations that manufacturers try to meet with their products. This research paper discusses harmonic acoustic analysis for a muffler which has to be incorporated into an air to water heat pump, a device that operates for a significant part in a day. Compressor noise was identified as major noise source in the ODU of heat pump, and this paper focusses on reducing noise from ODU with the help of a reactive muffler installed in the discharge pipeline along the high-pressure side after compressor. It was found that the muffler design used a perforated pipe is most effective as a noise reduction of 8.2 dBA as the minimum value and 12.6 dBA as the maximum value was observed.
