Pregnancy-Associated Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed during pregnancy. Managing breast cancer during pregnancy requires attention to both mother and fetus. Dominant breast masses during pregnancy should be biopsied. Mammograms and CT scans are avoided. Whole-body MRI may be used for staging. Breast cancer surgery can be done safely during all trimesters of pregnancy. Cytotoxic chemotherapy may be used after the first trimester of pregnancy. Radiation therapy should preferably be delivered after delivery.
