Adjuvant radiotherapy has a significant impact on the successful treatment of breast cancer. Early breast cancer trialists’ collaborative group (EBCTCG)] in a meta-analysis of 17 randomized trials reported that adjuvant radiation after a breast conservative surgery halves the rate of disease recurrence and reduces the breast cancer death rate by about a sixth [1]. Another analysis from the same group reported that the addition of adjuvant postmastectomy radiation in node-positive patients reduces mortality by 5.4% [1, 2] (Tables 21.1 and 21.2).
